We are proud to announce that during the 2012 Grammy Awards, Rebirth Brass Band won the Grammy for Best Regional Roots Music Album. They were one of several Louisiana artists nominated for the category. 
Rebirth was founded in 1982 by tuba player Philip Frazier, his brother, bass drummer Keith Frazier, trumpeter Kermit Ruffins and other school marching band members from Joseph S. Clark Senior High School, including snare drummer Derrick Tabb, who is the founder of Roots of Music. Congratulations Rebirth!

Moonlight dances across the Mississippi River as the soft notes of a jazz saxophone weave their way down cobblestone streets, through wrought-iron balconies and across moss-laden oaks. The warm evening air is heavy with the aroma of fresh-brewed chicory coffee, Cajun and Creole spice, and sweet Southern jasmine. A horse-drawn carriage trots by, while a paddlewheeler’s whistle echoes down the riverfront like a special serenade for couples in love.

Mercedes-Benz USA buys naming rights to SuperDome
Mercedes-Benz USA is announcing that it will have naming rights for the Superdome in a 10-year agreement. The deal caps the complete renovation finished this summer of the 73,000-seat home to the NFL’s Saints and site of the 2013 Super Bowl.
For the Superdome, it’s about prestige. “This is yet another sign to the entire country that New Orleans and the state are coming back stronger (from) Katrina,” said Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal. The state owns the dome, opened in 1975. The Republican said Mercedes is a “natural partner” for the Superdome.

Sungard Higher Education recently presented a check for $30,000 to The Roots of Music, a New Orleans based non-profit created by musician Derrick Tabb. Pinnacle Events was chosen as the DMC to assist Sungard Higher Education with their program and suggested they consider The Roots of Music as it was a perfect fit for the education mission of Sungard Higher Education. The Roots of Music marching band, 125 children strong, opened the Sungard Summit General Session before an audience of 5000 where Cokie Roberts was the celebrated speaker.
Throughout the week, Sungard Higher Education employees and customers donated money for this awe inspiring program and then Sungard Higher Education matched the donation. It is the largest donation produced by the Sungard Summit to date.

Ginny served on the MPI Gulf States Membership Committee ‘02 – ‘03 and returned to the committee again in ‘09 – ’10. She was also was a member of the Special Events committee ‘09-‘10. In 2010, she was honored to be named Meeting Planner of the Year by the MPI Gulf States Chapter. Ginny also serves on the Board of Directors as the Director of Membership Recruitment and Retention.
